Mounted to the southeast facade of this parking structure are several installations that demonstrate not only the capabilities of tension screen as a cladding and sunshading system but also its possibilities as an eye-catching signage display. In this instance, the graphic images were applied by an artist whose spray booth size limitations forced screens to be manufactured in 10′ heights; typically tension screens may extend greater than 20′ in height [...]

Located in a natural setting north of Lake Tahoe, the building’s exterior showcases crimped and woven wire as rail fill. Individual panels are finished with banding on all sides, then mounted to tabs that connect to the rail structure. Finish colors are custom-made to match the metal roof and other architectural and aesthetic features around the timber-lined property.

A major redesign of the Transit Mall in Portland, Oregon, features a modern, technology-centric look and feel at all transit shelters. TWG provided stainless steel woven wire wraps at each column which encase the LED lighting fixtures, the drainage system and structural supports.

Black powdercoated woven wire infill contrasts with blonde wooden framing at this private residence near Lake Tahoe, California. This parking structure’s challenging site – located on a steep hillside along a busy boulevard and fronting an urban park – made for the type of project TWG embraces. The architectural firm’s intent was to create a parking facility that, by design, has as little visual impact on its surroundings as possible. One method for achieving this goal is the extensive use of TWG’s Living Screen® in order to soften [...]

TWG provided stock welded wire panels that were welded by the installer to enable a match to the arcing structural form of this steel pedestrian/cycling bridge. Panels were galvanized prior to installation. The span above busy McLoughlin Boulevard allows the Springwater Corridor path to continue from urban neighborhoods through natural wetlands and green spaces.

Located on Capitol Hill, this branch of Seattle’s Public Library is an urban building, but a stainless steel living trellis mounted to the façade wraps the perimeter with evergreen and deciduous vines and creates a bold entry, evocative of a ship’s prow. Maturing plants have continued to soften the brick facades; exterior walls are illuminated at night behind a veil of greenery. The vertical garden extends inside, flanking a two-story [...]

An example of how woven wire can be used for retail installations, framed woven wire is the backing material for Safeway’s main entry signage. The solution provides a semi-transparent “canopy” in a convex form; the steel tube forms behind the screen were also provided by TWG.

The signage outside of this award-winning Willamette Valley winery displays an impressive vertical wall, known for centuries as a “gabion”. In this example, tons of local river rock are retained inside a cage of TWG’s welded wire and plate steel with dramatic effect.

Exterior cladding for this multi-story parking facility is achieved using hundreds of perforated panels mounted to steel tubing. Panels are arranged in a pattern that allows for occasional gaps and overlaps on a large radius. The slotted openings in each panel provide excellent shading while maintaining a level of transparency both day and night.

A pedestrian bridge connecting a transit center to nearby neighborhoods, the design is an abstract “fish” that spans the Interstate 205 corridor. Special shapes of galvanized welded wire were created by TWG to fit the bridge’s unique configuration.

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) chose TWG’s woven wire for sunshading screens atop their new electronic toll collection gantries, which are placed throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area. These durable screens serve to protect the automated cameras and minimize glare.

Landscaping has recently redefined the northbound entry onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Northeast Portland, Oregon; included in the design is a curvilinear  and gently sloping screen wall made by TWG out of perforated corten steel. The weathered but warm appearance of the steel contrasts well with the lush green plantings surrounding it.

An open-air pavilion in the midst of a public park in Grand Prairie, this structure provides welcome shade from the hot Texas sun. A cable-supported design makes the concentric woven wire circles appear to float weightlessly; mesh weaves of two different densities create the illusion of lighter and darker rings.

The Living Screen® system connects to Bard Hall’s multi-angled exterior façade by using custom 2-piece brackets ranging from 10″ – 24” in length. TWG designed narrower brackets to allow for varying angles of attachment through the screens.  The top of each panel was designed to slope to align with the roof line behind it.  Our in-house design team worked with Contractors to devise solutions that the Architect and Owner approved [...]

Perforated plates create a tall vertical screen that undulates across three facades of this parking structure for Legacy Emanuel in Portland, Oregon. The strength of interconnecting bent panels allows for greater spanning distances and minimal connection points. Hole openings in each panel admit ample daylight while maintaining security.

471 framed and powder coated panels are applied to all four facades of this parking facility. The system devised is a modification of standard Living Screen®, with wire mesh on one face to promote climbing plant growth and perforated plate on the opposite face to provide visual interest and security. The perforated pattern (Matrix) was specially designed by the Architect in collaboration with TWG’s Engineering team; the seemingly random array [...]

At this multi-story parking structure, Dual Secure® panels fill large openings between structural columns and floors. The 3″ depth of the powdercoated welded wire panels adds strength and allows for greater spans to be achieved with fewer bracket connections. Climbing plant growth is not a requirement at this installation, therefore the selection of Dual Secure over the similar Living Screen® system is appropriate.

Two stainless steel woven wire patterns, held in tension, clad the entire western and southwestern façades of this six-story parking structure. The weave pattern at ground level surrounds the entire structure: Venetian Waterways 5C is a custom design to provide security with greater transparency. The weave applied to the upper western and southwestern façades, Venetian Waterways I, is a standard pattern that provides similar transparency, excellent sunshading and a reflective [...]
